Tim Wise: Speaking on Race

For those of you who don’t know or who are unaware of his writings and speeches, Tim Wise brings up some very sound and controversial topics.  He speaks nationally on White privilege and racism.  I’ve been privy to the topic, but not necessarily heard any of Tim’s commentary.  Friends have sent me links, but I never really took the time out to become acquainted with his writings.  I suggest that you take a little time to review the embedded videos and also visit his site.  He gives a unique perspective, at least in my opinion, on racism and the advantage that it maintains for the “elite.“

I’d love to hear your feedback on this.

Below are some videos of Tim speaking in various locations.

Reflections on Race from a Privileged Son. Tim Wise, Director of the Association for White Anti-Racist Education (AWARE), talks about the nature of racism in the U.S. with remarkable perception and humor. He provides keen insights on how our pervasive cultural racism skews our perceptions of reality. He uncovers the pathology of prejudice that underlies many of the attitudes and choices we make, both personally and politically. Even those who staunchly oppose racism will have their eyes opened to the ways that they too are subject to its subtle effects.
